Katy Hazzard, VMD

Dr. Hazzard has been in small animal veterinary practice for over 19 years, 12 of which were spent as a part owner and veterinarian of a premier AAHA-accredited practice in greater Portland, Maine. She also has seven years of experience within feline-dedicated practices, and is thus passionate about feline medicine and surgery in particular. She is Penn-Hip certified (a trademarked radiology process to select for the best hips for future generations of dogs and cats), trained in laser surgery, and experienced in veterinary abdominal ultrasound. Other veterinary interests include pain management, dental surgery, behavior, and internal medicine. She is also a registered veterinarian for the Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Lifetime Health Study, whose aim is to prolong the life of Golden Retrievers, and has been a radio panelist on Maine’s Public Broadcasting Network.

Dr. Hazzard earned her BA in Chemistry and a minor in Philosophy from Denison University, and her Veterinary Medical Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. During her time at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked in the Section of Medical Genetics, was a Student Government Representative, and the President of the Feline Club.

Outside of the veterinary hospital, Dr. Hazzard enjoys endurance events, especially trail running and hiking, as well as snowshoeing and skiing. She is married to a digital health technology guru, Chuck, with whom she enjoys all of these activities, as well as her two Vizslas Brooke and River. They also have five beautiful feline companions.
